Popstar of the Year: Jedward

planet-jedward-album1Anyone who may have thought that Jedward were just going to be one of those many reality stars who you forget about have been proved very wrong.

It has been a massive year for Jedward, launching songs, headlining tours and being the face of computer games!

After being one of the most controversial acts on X Factor ever (until Wagner that is!) Jedward signed a one-album contact with Sony Music at the beginning of the year.

They then went on to release a mash up of Under Pressure and Ice Ice Baby with American rapper Vanilla Ice, getting number one in the Irish Singles Chart and number two in the UK Singles Chart.

jedward-5Their album Planet Jedward was also very successful, going straight to number on on the Irish Albums Chart and number 17 on the UK Albums Chart.

Perhaps the most successful aspect of their music careers so far has been their headline tour, Planet Jedward Tour. This was a sold-out 27-date tour which then had to be extended with a second 38-date tour due to overwhelming popularity! They are in fact still doing their second tour at the moment and are due to finish in January 2011.

Of course, with their rather unique personalities, Jedward have also forged a promising career on TV with their very own show called Jedward: Let Loose. This documentary on ITV2 followed the boys as they prepared to launch their debut album and how they dealt with fame.

JedWard1They have also proven incredibly popular for advertisers, promoting anything from Shake ‘n’ Vac to Rowntree’s Randoms! Recently they have begun appearing in  a series of adverts for Nintendo DS in a deal worth £250,000!

And if you think 2010 has been a good year, then 2011 promises to be just as exciting, as it has been recently announced that Jedward will be one of five bidding actos to represent Ireland at the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest!

However, in the meantime, have Jedward done enough to get your vote for Artist of the Year? Let us know!

While you decide, here’s the video for their second single All the Small Things
