Out of all the bands, there is no doubt that Take That are the seasoned veterans!
In total the group have had 27 top 40 singsle and 16 top 5 singles in the UK Kingdom alone. On top of that an impressive 11 of those reached number one. Oh, and they also have had seven number one albums!
However, it is quite possible to see 2011 as one of their best years ever.
After the return of Robbie Williams and their new album Progress at the end of 2010, they have spent much of 2011 raking in the awards, including Brit Awards for Best British Group and Album of the Year!
This year also saw them touring with their new live show Progress Live. They performed at the biggest venues across the UK and Europe, and to say it was successful may be a bit of an understatement!
Their eight concerts at Wembley made a gigantic £38 million – the most ever for one series of gigs, and beating the previous record by £14 million!
In fact they broke the record, previously held by Bruce Springstein, twice! Their eight shows at the City of Manchester Stadium in early June are the second highest grossing concert series.
On top of that a record-breaking total of 623,737 people came to see the show! Now that’s what we call big!
It was no surprise then that when the released the Progress Live tour on DVD in late November, it proved a bit of a hit.
On the first two days on sale the tour DVD was selling ‘twice as much as the entire music DVD chart combined’ and sold over 200,000 copies in two weeks in the UK alone.
Whilst doing all this, they also had time to release a new EP called Progressed which had 8 tracks written by the band since they reunited as a 5-piece. Sold alongside the album Progress it actually returned Take That to number 1 in the UK Album Chart!
Oh, and one last thing – in case you hadn’t noticed Take That member Gary Barlow also had time to be a judge in one of the biggest TV shows, The X Factor.
The band have announced a break after their tour, but considering the success they’ve had this year we imagine (and hope) it won’t be too long til they’re back and breaking more records in the future!
