Saturday Specials

  • On the first Saturday of every month the Geffrye offers a range of fun activities, including quizzes (all ages) and creative crafts (suitable for young people aged 5 – 15).
  • All children under 11 must be accompanied by an adult. Places are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis 30 minutes prior to the workshop.
  • Special activities for younger children, aged 3 and their carers are listed separately below Saturday Specials.

Seaside Treasure Chests

  • Saturday 1 August
  • 10.30am – 12.30pm, repeated from 2.00 – 4.00pm
  • Make a secret chest for your treasure and decorate it with seaside designs.

Back to School Baking

  • Saturday 5 September
  • 10.30am – 12.30pm, repeated from 2.00 – 4.00pm
  • Bake biscuits and decoate a box to take them home in.

Summer Sunday – Family Day

Bhangra, Bees and Bugs – Family Day

  • Sunday 9 August
  • 12.00noon – 5.00pm
  • Bhangra band and Bhangra Dancers return to the Geffrye.
  • Learn to dance with the Four By Four Bhangra Dancers, listen to stories of bugs, see the bees with the North London Beekeepers Association and make a beeswax candle.

Summer workshop activity at the Geffrye

Inside/Outside
Three exciting weeks of activities for children aged 3-16, exploring summertime in both inside spaces such as house or flats and outside spaces such as gardens or the seaside. Have your face painted, build a high-rise with the Building Exploratory, meet Zoolab and some unsual animals, and observe bees from the North London Beekeepers Association.

During this drop-in week, participants can join in the fun at any time during the morning or afternoon sessions. The activities will take approximately 30 minutes to complete. Please note the Nursery Rhyme Time workshops will not be drop-in – please register as usual 30 minutes before the start of the workshop.

Tuesday 4 August

Nursery Rhyme Time – for children aged 3-5 and their carers
10.30am – 11.30am and repeated at 12.00 – 1.00pm
Explore high-rise homes in this interactive storytelling and craft session.

Picture Postcards – for children aged 5 – 15
10.30am – 12.30pm and 2.00 – 4.00pm
Collage a postcard to send to a friend or family member.

How does your garden grow? – all ages workshop
2.00 – 4.00pm
Help create a giant garden print using real fruit and vegetables!

Summertime Stories – all ages session
2.30pm and repeated at 3.30pm
Hear fascinating stories about inside and outside summer spaces.

Young Volunteer Tours – all ages
3.00pm and repeated at 4.00pm
Join the museum’s young volunteers for a tour of the museum’s period rooms.

Wednesday 5 August

Nursery Rhyme Time – for children aged 3-5 and their carers
10.30am – 11.30am and repeated at 12.00 – 1.00pm
Explore birds’ nests in this interactive storytelling and craft session.

Curious nature domes – for children aged 5 – 15
10.30am – 12.30pm and 2.00 – 4.00pm
Make a garden or seaside sculpture inspired by Victorian nature domes.

How does your garden grow? – all ages workshop
2.00 – 4.00pm
Help create a giant garden print using real fruit and vegetables!

Face painting – all ages workshop
Drop in between 12.00 – 2.00pm
Drop-in and have your face painted like a bug or sea creature.

Thursday 6 August

Nursery Rhyme Time – for children aged 3-5 and their carers
10.30am – 11.30am and repeated at 12.00 – 1.00pm
Explore the seashore in this interactive storytelling and craft session.

Windy Windmills – for children aged 5 – 15
10.30am – 12.30pm and 2.00 – 4.00pm
Make a fun mini windmill to use outside in the summer.

Join beekeeper Angela Dougall to learn more about the life of bees.

Sandy castle blocks – all ages workshop
2.00 – 4.00pm
Create some high-rise sand castles on our urban beach.

Young Volunteer Tours – all ages
3.00pm and repeated at 4.00pm
Join the museum’s young volunteers for a tour of the museum’s period rooms.

Friday 7 August

Explore honeybees in this interactive storytelling and craft session.

Inside Out – all ages workshop
10.30am – 12.30pm and 2.00 – 4.00pm
Create a collage mixing outside scenes with inside furniture and objects.
