Welcome to the Year of the Tiger
Come and celebrate the history of the Chinese community in East London over 300 years in a day packed with exciting and unique free events including a variety show, lion dance and craft stalls and workshops.
Museum of London Docklands will be free to enter all day!
Schedule of events:
- Variety Show – two performances at 2.15pm and 3.30pm in the museum’s Wilberforce Theatre.
- Lion Dance – starting at 1.30pm outside the museum with the performance lasting approximately 20 minutes and finishing inside the museum foyer.
- A variety of drop-in workshops will run throughout the day including water painting, Calligraphy, paper cutting and face painting alongside traditional food and craft stalls.
The Chinese variety show opens with a new dance by the Harrow Children Dance Group followed by young visiting artists showing off their great acrobatic skill and gymnasium exercises which include the traditional rolling of candlelight, the exciting and breathtaking Hip Hoopla, juggling, martial arts and diabolo play. This will be followed by a performance from Changing Face including audience participation and magic. The show will finish with solo folk dances and folk songs by the Sinman Dance Company. The show will also include a repertoire of breathtaking balancing acrobatic acts by the Hebei Acrobatic Troupe.
