This Christmas and New Year Shakespeare’s Globe will celebrate the winter season with a range of activities and entertainment across the site.
Visitors can explore Shakespeare’s London with a visit to the exhibition and theatre tour throughout the festive season, with winter themed family story-telling sessions between Boxing Day and New Year’s Eve.
On Thursday 9 December, Globe Education will be highlighting the seasonal spirit of Southwark with the annual Concert For Winter and visitors can see in the New Year with Winter Wassail – an uplifting musical celebration by the Gabrieli Consort & Players from 1 – 3 January 2011.
As well as these activities Swan at the Globe will keep the winter chills away with a selection of food and drink served within the renowned bar and brasserie, and Shakespeare’s Globe shop will offer Christmas shoppers a unique range of gift ideas and decorations.
A Concert for Winter is Shakespeare’s Globe’s annual celebration of the Southwark community through song and music.
Groups from the Southwark community and from local nursery, primary and secondary schools, will perform in this seasonal concert on the Globe stage arranged by Globe Education. This event is open to all.
In January 2011, Shakespeare’s Globe will present four special performances from the world-renowned Gabrieli Consort & Players in an uplifting musical celebration of the New Year, entitled Winter Wassail.
This familyfriendly programme will be presented in two concise half hour acts for 4 performances between 1 – 4 January, with shows being performed at 2pm, 4pm and 5pm.
Shakespeare’s Globe Exhibition & Theatre Tour offers visitors a fascinating introduction to Shakespeare and the London in which he lived and worked.
Guests can explore Shakespeare’s London through modern interactive displays, traditional crafts and regular live demonstrations including sword fighting and costume dressings.
Between Boxing Day and New Year’s Eve the Exhibition will be hosting interactive family story-telling sessions.
Here listeners will be able to play an active part in how these traditional winter stories develop and play out.
Also included with a ticket to the exhibition is a vivid half-hour tour of the theatre which brings the extraordinary space to life.
