This Easter, America’s kids-rock superstar group Dan Zanes & Friends presents four days of gigs for kids of all ages and the young at heart.
Offering under-tens the chance to experience their first proper gig in the hands of a real live rock star, Dan’s unique rock and roll take on family entertainment is winning new big and little fans across the globe.
Adoring kids and thankful parents throughout the USA cheered when Dan Zanes & Friends won a Grammy Award for Best Musical Album for Children. Families this side of the pond were left wanting more after the UK debut of their smash-hit live show at Southbank Centre in Easter 2007.
Now Dan and his Brooklyn-based band return to London with soulful folk favourites, early rock’n’roll classics and fun catchy originals performed with a little help from his friends. Lou Reed, Nick Cave, Debbie Harry, Sheryl Crow and Philip Glass have all made cameo appearances before and as you’ll find out, their shows always are full of surprises.
Performances run for approximately one hour and are most suitable for under tens, but will also work well for older age groups and provide fun for the entire family, from baby to grandparent.
‘Magical… it was worth having kids for’ (Independent).
‘If you have kids, and are shuddering at the prospect of listening to nothing but Bob the Builder for the next six years, you owe Zanes an enormous debt of gratitude… he just might save your sanity’ (Times).

More on Dan Zane
The former lead singer and songwriter of the Boston rock group, The Del Fuegos, will perform with his six-member band, Dan Zanes & Friends, presenting new songs as well as soulful folk favourites, early rock ’n’ roll classics and a number of his well-known family hits, giving audiences the chance to sing-a-long and dance to such classics as Catch That Train, House Party Time and Hello. The shows will include some special guests and local musicians from the UK.
Over the last five years, the UK music scene has seen a major cultural shift in favour of families and children, with disco for toddlers and family-friendly festivals such as Latitude, Big Chill and Bestival all offering children’s areas, ensuring that rock gigs and kids are no longer mutually exclusive. Dan Zanes’ rock ‘n’ roll take on family entertainment has won him a legion of big and little fans across the US, where Dan has been at the forefront of a new wave of artists making high quality music for families to enjoy together.
In the US, Dan Zanes & Friends draw fans of Lou Reed, Debbie Harry, Philip Glass, Aimee Mann and Sheryl Crow — all of whom have collaborated with Zanes on his award-winning albums. His live performances, which The New York Times says “are always cause for celebration”, feature a joyous mix of American and West Indian folk, fiddle tunes and jug band stomps all infused with the spirit of rock ‘n’ roll. Dan Zanes & Friends draw crowds of thousands to prestigious performing arts centres across the US and have elicited widespread acclaim in the UK and Australia, following their debut appearances over the last couple of years. The group is also widely known to TV audiences in both the US and the UK through Disney Channel’s Playhouse Disney.
Dan Zanes has made several best-selling albums, including the Grammy award-winning Catch That Train, and is scheduled to release his latest CDs – İNueva York! and the specially priced compilation The Welcome Table: Songs of Inspiration, Mystery & Good Times – as well as his live DVD, All Around the Kitchen, in the UK on 30 March through Festival Five / ADA Global. Zanes has also released two children’s picture books and most recently, he played the leader of The Steve Kovac Band in Sam Mendes’ film Revolutionary Road, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet.
As part of this year’s Lambeth Schools Music Festival, which runs from 25 March – 3 April 2009 at Southbank Centre, Dan Zanes & Friends will join local primary schools and nurseries as special guests for an end-of-term party in The Clore Ballroom.
Dan Zanes and friends are: Dan Zanes (lead guitar and lead vocals); Colin Brooks (drums); John Foti (accordion); Saskia Sunshine Lane (stand up bass); Elena Moon Park (violin) and
