IWM London (Imperial War Museums)

On 6 January 2014 IWM London will close for six months. In July 2014, for the Centenary of the First World War, we will launch a transformed IWM London with new First World War Galleries and a newly configured atrium displaying our iconic large objects.

Our transformation is well under way; access around the museum is currently limited and on 6 January the museum will close until July 2014. Find out what Galleries are currently open at iwm.org.uk.

At IWM London discover the story of those who have lived, fought and died in conflict from the First World War to the present day.

IWM London houses exhibits ranging from tanks and aircraft to photographs and personal letters, as well as film and sound recordings and some of the twentieth century’s best-known paintings.

IWM has five branches:

  • IWM London – IWM’s flagship museum – temporarily closes on 6 January until July 2013
  • Churchill War Rooms, see Churchill’s secret headquarters below Whitehall
  • HMS Belfast, Explore HMS Belfast’s nine decks to discover the stories of life on board during the Second World War and beyond
  • IWM Duxford, Lose yourself for a whole day wandering under and around some of the most iconic aircraft in the world
