This RHS-Family-fun-day-2summer holidays, why not enjoy a great day out exploring the countryside.  There is so much to see.

Why not visit your local RHS Garden, and remember, kids go free throughout August.

Events this week include:

31 July – Open Air Theatre ‘The Secret Garden’ by Heartbreak Theatre Productions
RHS Garden Rosemoor
Devon

  • Frances Hodgson Burnett’s poignant tale of a proud and headstrong girl discovering some of life’s lessons as a consequence of stumbling upon her Uncle’s secret garden, which has been locked up for years. After making the garden come alive she becomes convinced that her Uncle’s crippled son can walk if he too shares the magic of the secret garden.  A family classic suitable for 6yrs and upwards.
  • 6.30pm (Garden remains open from 6pm)

31 July – Picnic Theatre – Much Ado about Nothing
RHS Garden Hyde Hall,
CHELMSFORD

  • A war of words. Three weddings… and a funeral. It’s all here in The Pantaloons’ hilarious version of Shakespeare’s comedy. Open-air theatre fun for all ages. Please bring your own picnic, blankets and maybe an umbrella – just in case!

1st August  – The Forest Party

  • Come dressed up and enjoy music, fun and forest crafts for all the family with tree carving and traditional wood sculptures.

31 July – 30 August – Sunflower Maze, Garden Games and Wild at Wisley Play Area
RHS Garden Wisley
WOKING, Surrey

  • Weave your way through our giant Sunflower Maze, challenge the family to garden games and balance, hide and swing your way through our Wild at Wisley play area.

1st – 29th August  – The Mystery Garden Quest
RHS Garden Harlow Carr, North Yorkshire

  • Take on the quest around the garden, you’ll be surprised by what you find!
  • 10am – 4pm

31 July – 8 August  – Plants that Bite Back
RHS Garden Wisley
WOKING, Surrey

  • Wind your way around our trail and discover amazing plants.
  • On 31 July and 1 Aug – Sow and grow some spicy seeds.
  • On 3 and 4 Aug – Plant your own carnivorous plug plant.
  • On 7 and 8 Aug – Sow and grow some spicy seeds.

3 August  -Potager Gardening: Walk with Peter Earl
RHS Garden Rosemoor
Devon

  • Combine the edible with the beautiful in a potager! Similar to the traditional English cottage garden but mainly based on vegetables, the potager is inspired by the decorative and intensive vegetable gardens found in France.
  • Come and discover the secrets of our potager garden and learn how to create your own masterpiece at home.
  • 11am (allow 2 hours)
  • Cost: £15, RHS member: £9.50

3 August  – Family Fun Beach Day

CHELMSFORD

  • Enjoy all the fun of a day at the beach without having to go to the seaside! Sandcastles, donkey rides, ice-creams and puppet shows will be sure to keep the kids amused.
  • Cost: Normal garden admission applies. Booking not required.
  • 11am to 5pm

5 August – Summer Family Fun Days
RHS Garden Rosemoor
Devon

  • Come along to Rosemoor for a fun filled family day out! As well as being able to stroll around the enchanting garden, there will be a variety of attractions for all the family to enjoy, with art and craft workshops, face painting, storytelling and much more.
  • 10am – 4pm
  • Normal Garden Entry

5 August – Children’s Bug Hunt

CHELMSFORD

  • A chance for children to explore the garden looking for bugs and beasties! Help and guidance will be available throughout.
  • Cost: Kids go FREE, normal garden admission applies for adults.  Booking not required.
  • 11am to 3pm

6 August  – Photography
RHS Garden Wisley
WOKING, Surrey

  • Develop your photography skills with our fun and informative workshops, taking photos of plants – just like real plant hunters.  You can decorate a photo frame to take home too.
