Going for Gold: A Summer Party
A great day to visit the gallery; the Andy Warhol exhibition has just opened with lots of kid friendly Pop Art and it’s party time! A parade with penny farthings and fancy dress, Punch & Judy, rides, bands and a huge balloon finale in the midst of a giant garden sculpture installation by Philip Haas.

Dulwich Picture Gallery and Gardens/Herne Hill Velodrome
Entry to the Gallery gardens by Gala Programme at £1 per family
Free Entrance: to the permanent collection at Dulwich Picture Gallery and to the Herne Hill Velodrome (a short walk away in Burbage Road).
Grand Parade 11:30: from Herne Hill Velodrome to Dulwich Picture Gallery by the Veteran-Cycle Club with penny farthings and other vintage bicycles, and children in fancy dress on their bikes (volunteers needed!).
Olympics Cycling Memorabilia: from the 1948 London Games on display in the Linbury Room. Talks by Tommy Godwin, winner of two bronze Olympic track cycling medals, and others. Film of cycling events will be shown throughout the day.
Family Events: Punch and Judy shows, traditional merry-go-round rides, displays of flying falcons, and ArtPlay fun at the Gallery. Watch cycle racing at the Velodrome.
Music: Jazz bands and classical quartets from local schools will play on the gallery bandstand. School singers will perform a selection of blues, gospel and classical music at Christ’s Chapel.
Food and Drink: The Gallery Café; stalls selling tapas, hot dogs, pies, Afro-Caribbean and vegetarian food; coffee, tea, soft drinks, beer, cider and wine; and summer favourites such as pop corn, candy floss and ice cream.
Giant Sculptures: in the Gallery grounds celebrating the Four Seasons.
Balloon Race 4pm: Release of 1,000 balloons to end the day’s fun: buy a balloon, see how far it flies and perhaps win a prize.
