Medieval treasures from the Thames at Museum of London
15:00

Vital to medieval London’s livelihood, the River Thames has also been the source of many fascinating objects that are now on display in Museum of London’s Medieval London gallery. They have been found during dredging activities, in building works and archaeological excavations along the waterfront, or by metal detectorists searching the foreshore. Objects range from Viking battleaxes to a gold pendant containing what purports to be a piece of the True Cross. Some may be valuable in monetary terms; others cast a unique light on the life of Londoners in medieval times. Join curator John Clark to view these finds, hear stories behind their discovery and how they contribute to our knowledge of London’s past.
