Saturday Specials
On the first Saturday of every month the Geffrye offers a range of fun activities, including quizzes (all ages) and creative crafts (suitable for young people aged 5 – 15).
All children under 11 must be accompanied by an adult. Places are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis 30 minutes prior to the workshop.
Special activities for younger children, aged 3 and their carers are listed separately below Saturday Specials.

Animated Buildings
Saturday 6 June
10.30am – 12.30pm, repeated from 2.00 – 4.00pm
Create an animation using the Ethelburga Tower as inspiration.

Marvellous Mirrors
Saturday 4 July
10.30am – 12.30pm, repeated from 2.00 – 4.00pm
Make a mirror inspired by seaside designs.

Seaside Treasure Chests
Saturday 1 August
10.30am – 12.30pm, repeated from 2.00 – 4.00pm
Make a secret chest for your treasure and decorate it with seaside designs.

Back to School Baking
Saturday 5 September
10.30am – 12.30pm, repeated from 2.00 – 4.00pm
Bake biscuits and decoate a box to take them home in.

Summer Sunday – Family Day

Head-Banging Bugs workshop
Sunday 14 June
12noon – 5.00pm
Summer fun for all ages, both inside the museum and in the gardens. Listen to summertime music by Caribbean Steel International, create beach-inspired masks, hear salty stories and play seaside games.
Refreshments and lunch are available in the restaurant or bring a picnic to eat on the grass. Admission is free.

Hackney Stories: Summer in the City Festival Day
Sunday 21 June
12 noon – 5.00pm
Join some of Hackneys favourite heritage organisations for this exciting festival day at the Geffrye Museum. Visit our stalls to find out more about our work and Hackney’s rich and diverse history. Take part in games, craft activities, tours and talks, or sit back and listen to live music in the gardens or simmering summer stories. There is something for all ages!
Refreshments are available in the restaurant or bring a picnic to eat on the grass. Admission is free.

10.30am – 4.00pm
Celebrate National Children’s Art Day and help make a giant recycled Geffrye garden, decorate a mini garden windmill and listen to summertime stories.

Garden Party – Family Day
Sunday 19 July
12.00 noon – 5.00pm
Listen to music by The Toots, make Mad Hatter’s tea party hats, and play garden games.

Bhangra, Bees and Bugs – Family Day
Sunday 9 August
12.00noon – 5.00pm
Bhangra band and Bhangra Dancers return to the Geffrye.  Learn to dance with the Four By Four Bhangra Dancers, listen to stories of bugs, see the bees with the North London Beekeepers Association and make a beeswax candle.

Summer workshop activity at the Geffrye

Inside/Outside
Three exciting weeks of activities for children aged 3-16, exploring summertime in both inside spaces such as house or flats and outside spaces such as gardens or the seaside. Have your face painted, build a high-rise with the Building Exploratory, meet Zoolab and some unsual animals, and observe bees from the North London Beekeepers Association.

All  10.30am – 12.30pm and 2.00 – 4.00pm
Craft workshops are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis 30 minutes in advance of the workshop, which lasts approximately two hours.

Week Three
Tuesday 4 August – Friday 7 August
10.30am – 12.30pm and 2.00 – 4.00pm
A week of activities run on an informal ‘drop-in’ basis – participants can join in the fun at any time during the workshops.

Fun and participatory craft and storytelling sessions tailored for younger artists!
