Maldon Carnival Week (Sunday 26 July to 1st August 1st)

Sunday 26th. July

  • Official Crowning of the 2009-2010 Maldon Carnival Court by the Town Mayor of Maldon
  • On the Promenade Park at 3pm.
  • Gaurd of honour provided by The Silver Gems Majorettes.

Monday 27th. July

  • Spot the Stranger starts today forms are available from the Tourist Information Office, Wenlock Way from Monday 20th July at 50p Cash Prizes.
  • Clairvoyant Evening in the company of Sylvia Burns and Ruth Aitken at The Town Hall, Market Hill 7.30pm., admission £4. refreshments and raffle available.

Tuesday 28th. July

  • A great fun packed afternoon of childrens entertainment  with Darren Redd, in the Lower Plume School Sports Hall, Mill Road. 2 till 4pm., entry £3 per child, a waiting area with refreshments will be available.

Wednesday 29th. July

  • Carnival Baby Show in the Lower Plume School Sports Hall, Mill Road,
  • Entries from 1pm., starts 2pm. Enties £1.50 spectators £1
  • Classes; (1) 0-6 months, (2) 6-12 months, (3) 12-18 months, (4) 18-24 months,  (5) Twins 0-24 months
  • Bonniest Baby will be selected from the winners of each class by the Town Mayor of Maldon.
  • Cash Bingo in the Lower Plume School Sports Hall
  • Doors open 7pm starts 8pm., admission £1 refreshments and raffle available.

Thursday 30th. July

  • Childrens Fun Time at the Lower Plume School Sports Hall/Field from 2pm till 4pm, free entry, lots of fun for the children including Tug-of-war, Treasure Hunt, Games, Competitions and Quizzes with lots of prizes.
  • Evening; Annual Car Treasure Hunt Starts at Lower Plume Scool Car Park. Check in 6.15-7pm., cars must return by 9.30pm.,
  • £5 per car entry please bring a pen, your mileage will be recorded in case of a tie.
  • Prizes: 1st £25., last a wooden spoon.
  • Results will be displayed at the Carnival refreshment tent on the Prom Carnival Day, Prizes will be presented approximately 4.30pm.

Friday 31st. July

  • Maldon Bowls Club Annual Carnival Drive
  • 6.15pm (members only) but spectators welcome at the Promenade Bowling Green
  • Evening; Last chance to enjoy a night of Carnival Cash Bingo in the Lower Plume School Sports Hall
  • Doors open 7pm starts 8pm., admission £1 refreshments and raffle available.

Saturday 1st. August  Grand Carnival Day

  • Procession leaves junction Cross Road and Fambridge Road at 2.15pm.
  • Arrival of the Promenade Park
  • Introduction of visitin Carnival Queens and Courts
  • Inter Pub/Club fun Tug-of-war
  • Display by the Mighty Smith, Adrian Smith 5th in the Worlds Strongest Man Competition and 3 times winner of the UK’s Strongest Man Competition.
  • See him tearing up catalogues, bending 6 inch nails in his teeth and pulling a vehicle.
  • Also a childrens Tug-of-war ‘and’ a £1000 challenge
  • Adrians display is geared for family fun with visual humour and audience participation
  • Display by The Silver Gems Majorettes sponsored by Chelmsford Radio.
