Half term holiday fun between  26 and 30 May

For under-5s

  • Magic Carpet storytelling, 11.30am, free.  Jump aboard the magic carpet for a half-hour story in front of a painting.

For families with children aged 5 to 11

  • Free hands-on two-hour art workshops. 11am, repeated 2pm.
  • Arcadian Makeover – Step out of the picture and into the Gallery with artist Thomas Gosebruch to create a three-dimensional model adorned by your own designs.

For all ages

  • Family Walk and Talk, 12.30pm, free. Join us on a journey through the Gallery where we will walk, talk and bring paintings alive!

Meet in the Education Centre Foyer for all the above events.   No need to book but places are limited and allocated on arrival. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Every Sunday is Family Sunday at the National Gallery. Join us for free fun activities, exciting trails and new audio tours.

For families with children aged 5 to 11
Free hands-on art workshops at 11am, repeated 2pm every Sunday. Meet in the Education Centre Foyer. Workshops last two hours.

  • Mirror, Mirror on the Wall – 3 May. Inspired by opulent interiors, create and transform your own space and put yourself in the picture with artist Aliki Braine.
  • Awash on the Thames – 10 May.  Join painter Jo Lewis on a journey down a sun-soaked river Thames while exploring reflection and colour à gogo.
  • View-finding Visions – 24 May. Experience perspective at new depths by making your own view-finder and cityscape with artist Robin-Lee Hall.
  • Canvas Capture – 17 and 31 May. Plotting characters on canvas, bring the fun of the outdoors inside with artist Gayna Pelham.

For under-5s

  • Magic Carpet storytelling – 10.30am-11am daily, 11.30am–12pm every Sunday. Meet in the Education Centre Foyer.  Fly away on the magic carpet as it comes to land in front of a different painting each day. Each story ties in with the four workshop themes for this spring.

Family Walk and Talk – all Ages Welcome

  • 12.30 to 1.30pm First Sundays Only – 3 May. Meet in the Education Centre Foyer. Join us on a journey through the collection where we will walk, talk and bring paintings alive!
