July 1, 2012toJuly 22, 2012
Free Floral Fun for Kids at the 2012 RHS Flower Show Tatton Park
Set in the beautiful surroundings of the historic estate at Tatton Park, the RHS Flower Show Tatton Park offers something for all the family. To give kids a great day out and encourage them to get outside, be active, grow plants and discover nature this summer, the RHS is letting under 16 year olds visit for free.*
Highlights for the family at this year’s show include:
Wonderful World of Growing
The Wonderful World of Growing feature aims to show children and adults how fulfilling it can be to grow your own fruit, vegetables, herbs and flowers, from sowing and potting, to enjoying the beautiful blooms and delicious fresh produce. The display by the Association of Manchester Allotment Societies (AMAS) includes vegetables and fruit, herbs for flavouring food and flowers to add colour and encourage wildlife, including bees and butterflies.
School Front to Front Gardens
Favourite children’s television programmes will be the theme for this year’s 22 local schools, from the North West, presenting Front to Front gardens at the Show. Children will be involved in the planning, growing and building stages of the gardens themes, geared around kids TV shows. The popular feature is coordinated by the Winsford Education Partnership and sponsored by Barclays, which sees school children from the North West creating their very own 3m x 3m gardens.
North West School’s Container Competition – supported by Cheshire East Council
North West primary schools will be producing their very own ‘Jubilant Diamond Jubilee’ containers to celebrate Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s 60 year reign. There will be an opportunity for visitors to vote for their favourite colourful and attractive display during the show week.
Primary and Secondary Schools Fruit & Vegetable Trug Competition
Primary and Secondary schools from around the North West will be growing to fill their fruit and vegetable trugs in this new competition, run in conjunction with the RHS Summer Fruit & Vegetable Competition. The children’s efforts will be judged by RHS Fruit &Vegetable judges and the criteria will focus on the best produced healthy vegetables.
