Summer Events @ V&A Museum of Childhood (August)

This summer there are buckets of fun things for families to do at the V& Museum of Childhood in Bethnal Green.  And best of all they’re all free!

Special events will include festivals and summer holiday activities running alongside the Museum’s great exhibitions of design, photography and jewellery. As well as making a date in their diary for two fantastic festivals, families should head to the Museum for Funky Fridays – a series of special events every Friday throughout the holidays featuring musicians, artists, performers, storytellers and more!

Summer Festival
Sunday 1 August, 11.30 -16.30

The Museum’s annual summer festival is back! Join us as the Museum grounds hum with live bands, dance, street performers, rickshaw rides, designer stalls and tasty food. Plus there*s lots for kids to make and do.

Funky Fridays!

As we’ve said, the V&A Museum of Childhood is the place to be for families every Friday. Throughtout the summer, the Museum has organised a series of fantastic events to entertain you. Here is the full list of events on offer:

Pop-up Storytelling
Friday 6 August, 11.00-16.00

Look out for storytellers and live musicians around the Museum and its gardens as they invent and improvise fun, interactive stories inspired by some weird and wonderful toys. Make a pop-up picture at our art and crafts table (14.00-16.00).

Age 3-12

Musical Mix
Friday 13 August, 11.00-16.00

Experience the musical cultures of South America and South Africa with musicians from the Grand Union Orchestra. Make a musical instrument at our arts and crafts table (14.00-16.00). There will also be family workshops (11.00 and 14.00) and short performances (12.00 and 15.00).

Age 3-12

Classical India
Friday 20 August, 11.00-16.00
A day of interactive family workshops and performances with Indian Kathak dancer Indrani Datta. Enjoy magical stories through dance, poetry and sounds. Make a peacock headdress at our drop-in arts and crafts table (14.00-16.00). There will also be family workshops (11.00 and 14.00) followed by short performances (12.30 and 15.30).

Age 3-12

Society of Wonders
Friday 27 August, 11.00-16.00
A day of music, art and games led by playful artists who will surprise, delight and, perhaps, even scare you silly. Plus, make a Thinking Cap at
our arts and crafts table (14.00-16.00).
