midnight-in-paris6

Cert: (12)

Running Time: 94 mins

Year Produced: 2011

Director: Woody Allen

Cast: Owen Wilson, Rachel McAdams, Kathy Bates, Michael Sheen

Woody Allen is mostly known as a director of talky relationship comedies, but every now and again he makes a fantasy movie like FILMCLUB favourite The Purple Rose of Cairo, or this one.

Owen Wilson plays Gil, an American tourist in Paris with a relationship that’s on the rocks. One night he decides to take a lonely wander and stumbles across a port hole that leads to fin 1920s Paris – a glamorous time populated by many of his favourite artists. But is it a better time to be alive than his own?

There’s lots of fun to be had in this movie as well as a beautiful look back at 1920s Paris. Look out for FILMCLUB Ambassador Michael Sheen as Gil’s love rival.

Like this? Then also try these great films: The Wizard of Oz (1939, PG); Everyone Says I Love You (1996, 12); The Purple Rose of Cairo (1985, PG); A Kid in King Arthur’s Court (1995, PG); Pleasantville (1998, 12)
