Puss in Boots is out on DVD this week – check out what some FILMCLUB members make of the film!
Daise, aged 16:
“Finally the adorable, charming and swashbuckling ginger cat, who we all fell in love with in Shrek 2, has been given a movie of his very own! Puss In Boots is the latest animated comedy from DreamWorks, directed by Chris Miller, and is guaranteed to bring the same amount of laughter and thrill as the Shrek films did.
Surprisingly, the film manages to maintain a plot – albeit one which becomes slightly predictable – but that doesn’t seem to matter because there is such a well-balanced mixture of fantastic one liners and hilarious dance sequences, as well as edge-of-your-seat action scenes, that both kids and adults are left feeling thoroughly entertained.
Perhaps one thing missing was the occasional appearance from a well-loved Shrek character such as Donkey – Donkey always makes things better!
Antonio Banderas (The Mask of Zorro, 1998) stars as the recognisable voice of Puss, which is one of the factors driving the film’s charm and humour. Co-starring is, Salma Hayek (Frida, 2002), who plays a new interesting character named Kitty – bringing more fun into the film.
If you are not a lover of 3D films, then stick to the 2D version of this one, because Puss In Boots uses the 3D aspect in any place that it possibly can – occasionally sending shrieks across the audience as cats pounce off the screen and knives fly into your face.
The film is not profound or philosophical – it’s just a fun, visual film for all the family to enjoy! However old you are, this film will make you smile and laugh – a definite tool for putting you in a good mood.
If you enjoyed Shrek, I suggest you see this film and watch Puss in Boots take centre stage!”
