Here’s what 12-year-old Laura McAuley thought:

The_Three_Musketeers_2The film begins in Venice where the three musketeers Athos (Matthew Macfayden), Aramis (Luke Evans) and Porthos (Ray Stephenson), are on a mission working with Athos’ lover Milady De Winter (Milla Jovovich) who betrays them for the handsome Duke of Buckingham (Orlando Bloom).

D’Artagnan (Logan Lerman) has trained all his life to be a part of the legendary three musketeers so he sets off to Paris, getting into trouble with the mysterious Rochefort (Mads Mikkelsen) on his way.  Once in Paris D’Artagnan accidentally crosses the path of the three musketeers and then challenges them to a sword fight, but before even beginning this fight the King’s guards led by Rochefort try to stop them; turning this small, boring village into a bloodthirsty battle ground with mind blowing stunts and suspenseful sword fights – this scene is undoubtedly one of the best!

the-three-musketeers-3The musketeers (and even their trusted servant Planchet played by James Corden who, as always, is the funny character full of witty humour) soon take a shine to D’Artagnan and allow him to stay with them for a while. When the King (Freddie Fox) summons the musketeers to his castle D’Artagnan finds himself falling for the beautiful Constance (Gabriella Wilde) – Queen Anne (Juno Temple)’s lady in waiting.

When the Queen’s precious diamonds go missing she is clueless as to what to do as her marriage is at stake but her lady in waiting has an idea involving the musketeers…

three-musketeers-1I think that Freddie Fox who plays the king portrays his character superbly as a stroppy, stuck up teenage king, who is madly in love with his queen but seems unable to show it.

The genre of this film is undoubtedly adventure with action in it mixed with a bit of romance.

I found this original film incredibly inspiring and will affect your everyday lives due to the courage, friendship and heroicness in this film. This spectacular classic was incredible! It kept you entertained from the moment it started to the second it ended, I loved it!

three-musketeers-5In this film the musketeers are as brave as a lion but as cunning as a fox! This film keeps you in the edge of your seat the whole way through. If you like classic medieval adventure/action with a bit of romance and crazy, astounding stunts the Three Musketeers is definitely for you!

This film was amazing with brilliant scenery, incredible explosions and four heroic heroes. It’s very hard to fault this film, I loved it! For me it was about romance, friendship and heroicness. I would be sure to give it a 5/5 rating! All for one and one for all!

Below you can read reviews of the new film The Three Musketeers – a re-telling of the classic story, in 3D!

And if you fancy another review, then check out our full list of reviews right here!

three-musketeers-5Logan Lerman, Matthew Mcfadyen, Ray Stevenson and Luke Evans star opposite Orlando Bloom in this fast-moving exhilarating new film packed with action, adventure and love. ‘The Three Musketeers’ demonstrates an unusual yet intriguing take on this legendary fairytale, proving exactly why you can never be too old for a fairytale.

We first meet the musketeers in Venice, where they are working alongside Athos’ lover Milady De Winter (Milla Jovovich) to unearth the most best-kept secret in Europe – Da Vinci’s designs for the world’s first airship. However, Milady cruelly double-crosses them for the Duke of Buckingham (Orlando Bloom).

three-musketeers-1This bitter disappointment dampens the spirit of Athos more than the others – his one and only lover lied to him and he feared he was never to see her again. However, their paths cross once more after the musketeers meet D’Artagnan (Logan Lerman), a young boy who’s trained all his life to become a musketeer.

From this point on it’s all hands on deck as the musketeers once more rise up and realise their dreams, taking D’Artagnan along for good measure. Love, guilt, bravery and more double-crossing make up the riveting second half of this film, making it impossible to tear your eyes away for a second!

three-musketeers-2011So many characters from this film present a twist on the stereotypical characteristics of their role, for example the young but desperately troubled King Louis (Freddie Fox) whose acting I really enjoyed – his loveable character has to be one of my favourites!

Athos, Porthos and Aramis also display characteristics not usually associated with legendary heroes…they’re lazy, disrespectful and arrogant – which is precisely what makes them so entertaining to watch! That, along with the musketeers’ hilarious sidekick/slave Planchet – played so brilliantly by James Corden who never fails to spread a smile across my face – makes this film a definite must-see!

the-three-musketeers-3Especially if you enjoy medieval sword fights, witty humour and a tale of true love breaking all boundaries…and of course, if you enjoy watching three musketeers sailing the seven seas and trekking the length and breadth of far-away countries to bring pride once again to their great home of France.

I would especially recommend this as a fantastic family film with something for everyone to enjoy; humour, friendship and love and some very daring sword-fights!
