Honey Monster’s Weeks

Hi.  There are some many special weeks – like National Sausage Day or Scary Spider Week – you know the sort of thing.   Did you know that there isn’t a National Monster Week – maybe we should start one!

The Last Chance for Panto!

  • Oh yes it is!  Oh no it isn’t!  Behind you!!!!!!   Oh I love a good pantomime, they’re loads of fun.  If you don’t know what a panto is, it’s like a special play at the theatre that is normally about a fairytale like Cinderella or Jack and the Beanstalk, but there are loads of jokes and special effects and singing and prizes – they are MONSTER fun!
  • Now you might have already been to the Pantomime, but if you haven’t it isn’t too late – many keep going throughout January and so there are often tickets still available.  Why not ask mum and dad if there is one near you?
  • And with all the excitement of Christmas behind us and the weather all gloomy and cold everyone needs cheering up and this is a great way to put a smile on your face.  If you need some ideas go to the Fun Kids website, there’s loads of info about the best pantos around.

Recycle your Cards & Tree Week!

  • Now your Christmas tree is probably looking a bit threadbare by now, maybe there are a few needles on the carpet – ouch!  They’re not nice to stand on are they?  Why not make this week the week to take the tree to the tip! Let it go free!  It’s done its hard work and it needs a rest!!!!  Hee hee!
  • Most council recycling sites have a special place for all the trees to go where they will be used to make mulch or other useful things, much better than being left on the street or thrown into a boring old bin bag.
  • And while you’re at it why not have a monster clear out of all the lovely Christmas cards you have been sent?
  • Old cards can be put into your recycling tubs, where thin card is accepted, or you can find recycling bins especially for them in big shops like supermarkets.  Or if you have ones with really cool pictures on why not cut them out – you can use them as labels next Christmas!  Sounds like fun to me!

New Years Week!

  • Well Christmas has come and gone which means the year is nearly over – was it a good year?
  • Did you do loads of fun things and laugh lots?  Or maybe it was a horrible old year that you’ll be glad to see the back of – anyway its nearly at an end – this time next week it will be bye bye 2009 and hello 2010!
  • New Year is celebrated the whole world over on the 1st January, (which is this Friday), with celebrations and parties, fireworks and fun. Because of the way the sun rises at different times across the globe, different countries celebrate at different times.
  • The Christmas Islands get their party first, followed by New Zealand and then Auckland in Australia.  FOURTEEN HOURS LATER we get our party in the UK, but the best parties are always worth waiting for!
  • Did you know that it wasn’t always New Year on 1st January?  Julius Caesar the Roman Emporer changed it from March, where it used to be – maybe he got bored waiting for the party – I love a good party!!

Christmas Week!

  • Well what can I say, it’s CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!  Well nearly.  Hope you’ve done all your shopping and written your list to Santa.
  • It’s so exciting isn’t it, I always have monster fun at Christmas, all the lovely food and a Honey Monster sized pile of pressies just for me – hee heee!
  • But remember, Christmas is not just about receiving presents – it’s also about giving them to mum, dad, Honey Monsters,  our brothers and sisters, friends, grandparents, Honey Monsters, people who live down the road … oh and did I mention Honey Monsters!!

Read a New Book Month

  • It is chilly out and there’s not much on the telly so why not pick out a lovely new book from the library or a bookshop or your grannies book shelf – and get reading!
  • This month the idea is to pick out a story you’ve never read before and give it a try.
  • Maybe if you like funny books, try something scary, or if you like adventure stories try a joke book – Monsters love a good joke, like this one: What do you get if you cross a monster with a pig?  Really big pork chops – hee hee!
