THE HUNDRED-FOOT JOURNEY

The Hundred Foot Journey (PG, 2014)

This enjoyable tale is all about how our differences can ultimately bring us closer and add spice to our lives. The story sees two food fanatics competing with each other in the scenic south of France. Madame Mallory runs an upmarket restaurant, and is intent on gaining another Michelin star. But rivalry ensues when Indian immigrant Papa opens an Indian eatery across the road complete with blaring sound system and food cooked by his hugely talented son Hassan, whose profile quickly rises in the world of cuisine. Don’t watch it on an empty stomach.

The Amazing Spiderman 2

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (12A, 2013)

Peter Parker is coming towards the end of his time in high school, still struggling with his various responsibilities and dilemmas as an everyday teenager, as well as those that come with being a crime-fighting superhero. In this film he comes across various new foes, led by Electro, a lonely electrical engineer at OsCorp with an obsessive interest in Spider-Man and victim of a particularly nasty accident. Thanks to his friend Harry Osborn, Peter also learns more about his father’s past, but it soon becomes clear that Harry is dealing with problems of his own, which could have potentially disastrous consequences. This explosive sequel ups the ante in every way, balancing a wide range of characters and storylines with confidence and benefitting from an impressive cast across the board. However like the first film, it is the sweet on/off romance between Peter and Gwen Stacy that remains at its heart.
