Plant Hunting Adventure Weekend 29th to 31st August
- The month will end with a pirate spectacular. Visiting families will be presented with a treasure map trail that leads them in the footsteps of one of the great plant hunters.
- They will have to follow the map to collect clues by finding certain items, taking part in survival activities, making eye patches, navigating the maize maze (and beating the pirates), walking the plank, all to lead them to the end of their voyage – their plant treasure (which they can pot up and take home).
The Maize Maze
- Victorian times return at Wilsey
- August marks the return of a 65m x 65m Maize Maze, complete with pirate ship and tropical planting, a grass maze, garden trails, a whole host of Victorian-themed daily activities and costumed actors roaming the garden as the great plant hunters of the 1800s.
- Parents needn’t worry about the activities breaking the bank either
Victorian Grass Maze
- Race around our freshly mown Grass Maze, which is based on a historic RHS maze that featured in our RHS South Kensington gardens in 19th Century.
- It was commissioned by Prince Albert (one of our many illustrious RHS presidents) and constructed in 1862.
Wild at Wisley
- Get up close to nature in our new area of natural play located in the Arboretum. ‘
- Wild at Wisley’ features pathways through wildflower meadows, stepping logs to balance on, tree stumps to jump between, a bark-chipping pit and a snail-shaped grass maze to race a sibling or friend around.
Remember that kids are free in August
