Popstar of the Year: Olly Murs
After shaking off the X Factor contestant tag and becoming a popstar in his own right last year, 2011 has seen Olly Murs continue to build his reputation as one of the biggest stars in the UK.
This year has seen him win awards, release a number one album, number one singles and even become a presenter on one of the biggest shows on TV.
Olly kicked off the year in style with his first ever headline tour, but it was really from summer onwards when everything started to explode.
And it seems topping charts has become a regular thing now for Olly Murs. His second album In Case You Didn’t Know came out at the end of November, and quickly become number-one with first week sales of over 150,000 copies.
The album was his first to top the chart and has already gone platinum – not a bad way to end the year!
Olly Murs released a brand new single called Heart Skips a Beat, teaming up with Rizzle Kicks, which shot straight to number one becoming his second number one single and has sold well over 400,000 copies!
He didn’t have to wait long for his third number one though as his next single Dance With Me Tonight hit the top of the charts too.
The album came out in October and entered the UK Albums Chart at number two. Impressively, it achieved the biggest week one album sales for a debut album in 2010, with over 108,000 albums sold!
