A to Z of Wildlife: J is for… Jaguar!

Jaguars are big cats

Jag

If you didn’t know Jaguars are big cats – you can tell them apart from cheetahs and leopards by checking out the spots – Jaguars have dots inside a circle.

They are a symbol of power strength and beauty and have been worshipped as Gods. They’ve even had a car brand named after them!

They might look friendly but can really roar!

At one time, jaguars roamed all the way to the US-Mexico border but jaguars are now only occasionally sighted in Texas and Arizona. Most jaguars are found in the Amazon river basin in South America!

The name jaguar comes from the Native American word yaguar, which means “he who kills with one leap.”

Wild Challenge! Why not make a Jaguar mask out of a paper plate and colouring pens?
