Why does sweat smell?

Professor Hallux

Here’s what Professor Hallux has to say:

It’s weird isn’t it! Sweat is mostly water and water doesn’t seem to smell.

Well, the clue to our answer is in the word ‘mostly’. Sweat doesn’t actually smell but when it leaves the body the bacteria that lives on your skin mixes up with the sweat and that’s what creates the smell.

Don’t worry though, a good scrub will soon get that smell away!
