Is a kaleidoscope useful?

How does a kaleidoscope work?

Bonjour! It’s Nancy here – from the soon-to-be world famous pop group Nancy and the Meerkats!

Nancy-1After our first record “Put Your Paws Up” became a massive hit, we’re off on a huge tour of the UK!

We haven’t quite made it to stadium status yet – some of the venues are more Weeny than Wembley – but I’m going to be letting you know what’s been going on each day in my journal for Fun Kids!

We’ve just finished the soundcheck for tonight’s concert in Edinburgh! Soundchecks are meant to be loud but this one was loud for all the wrong reasons – we couldn’t stop arguing!

It all started when I ordered these amazing new costumes for the girls but they refused to wear them!

The girls thought they were a bit too colourful and we could end up blinding the audience with the mirrors they were covered in rather than our amazing tunes!

OK so maybe I see where they were coming from… but I won them round in the end!

Basically, I got the idea from this kaleidoscope I got in a toyshop. Edinburgh is chouette for shopping!

You look through a tube and when you turn it you see lots of beautiful colourful patterns!

Inside the tube is a load of tiny mirrors, see at an angle, and at the bottom are little pieces of coloured glass.

These pieces of glass are what make all the amazing patterns – just like magic! C’est magnifique!

Big Joe says they were invented right here in Edinburgh 200 ago!

Apparently the inventor, David Brewster named his invention after the Greek words, kalos or beautiful, eidos or form, and scopos or watcher – or the beautiful form watcher!

Kaleidoscope’s don’t really do anything useful… but they are nice to look at – unlike that horrible hairball Kitty Perry!

She’s been saying even more mean things to try and spoil our tour!

Big Joe found some posters backstage saying “If you’re going to Nancy & The Meerkats tonight don’t forget your sunglasses to protect your eyes from the girls outfits, they’re as ugly and loud as the band!”

Big Joe’s always got a plan though and he thought this would be a great opportunity to hand out our cool Nancy and the Meerkats sunglasses!

That’ll put Kitty Perry well and truly in the shade!
