Kids’ Guide to Santorini

Explore the world with Zoom!

Hi, it’s Zoom here from Birmingham Airport!

I love travelling and keeping a record of all the places I’ve visited in my scrapbook!

Check out this entry from Santorini!

The Greek islands of Santorini!  It’s just 4 hours from Birmingham Airport.

Have you ever heard the legend of the lost underwater city of Atlantis? Santorini is thought to be the source of that very legend! It’s part of a group of islands consisting of Thíra, Thirassiá, Asproníssi, Palea and Nea Kaméni.  The island’s original settlers were wiped out by a volcano many years ago, but it’s ok, the island’s volcano isn’t considered dangerous anymore! The last big eruption was 3,600 years ago – it caused the centre of the volcano to collapse and create an enormous crater 8 kms wide! That’s like 76 football pitches!

Whilst the volcano eruptions destroyed a lot, the ash also protected some very old buildings.  A lost city was recently found complete with ancient buildings housing some of the finest art in the Mediterranean! Bet that was exciting for whoever found those!

When you’re done playing Indiana Jones, check out the beaches! There’s the dark sands and clear waters of Perivolos Beach and a  quality water park at Perissa with three water slides.  And where there’s beaches, there’s water fun – windsurfing, scuba diving or simply paddling!

I love being able to remember the trips that I have done.

Why don’t you create a scrapbook of your holidays? It could be online like mine, or in a book or on your computer!
