Imagine flying from London to New York in America in less than an hour! At the moment, the journey takes just under eight hours.
That’s the dream of Elon Musk, a billionaire businessman who is well-known for coming up with really smart ideas.
He’s revealed proposals for one of his most ambitious ideas to date – rocket flights around the world, all with journey times of less than an hour.
Elon runs a company called SpaceX who have developed a big rocket to travel to Mars.
He says there’s no reason the rocket shouldn’t be able to go around the Earth instead of to space:
If you build a ship that’s capable of going to Mars, what if you take that same ship and go to another place on earth, so we looked at that and the results are quite interesting.
Each rocket would be able to hold about 100 people and a flight will cost roughly the same as an economy flight on a passenger jet. That could be as low as £400 for London to NYC.
At the moment, the closest thing we have to ordinary people being able to travel on rockets is Virgin Galactic.
They’re offering trips to space for tourists where you can experience weightlessness and incredible views of Earth, although just for a few minutes.
