How to make mermaid toast – according to Adeline Waugh (vibranceandpure on Instagram)!

These rainbow creations look (almost) too good to eat!

When you think of exciting foods, toast probably isn’t the first thing that springs to mind…

But there’s a new trend that’s making the snack a little less ordinary – mermaid toast!

These multi-coloured creations look just like a mermaid’s tail… and they’re ready to eat!

Mermaid toast is something we first spotted food stylist Adeline Waugh trying out on her Instagram account (vibranceandpure) and turns out it’s really easy to do yourself!

All you need is a tub of cream cheese, bottles of food colouring and some bread!

Spoon the cream cheese into separate bowls and add a few drops of colouring to each one to make edible pastel paints. Toast the bread and get ready to spread!

There’s no right or wrong way to do it, just have a play and see what designs you come up with!

Adeline recommends coating the toast with a plain cream cheese base to start with. Then add a couple of dollops of the dyed versions, before using a knife to blend the colours together (make sure you get a grown-up to help with this bit).

If you need some inspiration, here are a few of our favourites from Adeline’s vibranceandpure Instagram account:

You might have heard of unicorn toast – well this is basically the same thing, just with Adeline’s own twist.

Speaking about her mermaid toast invention, Adeline says: “I am just having fun! I am a food stylist and I like to create beautiful things using food”

“I just like to play around in the kitchen and attempt to create something aesthetically pleasing and unique from time to time.”

Just remember, it might not taste quite as crazy as it looks… after all, it’s still just cream cheese! Give mermaid toast a go and let us know how you get on!
