Northern Ireland’s hopes of making the World Cup finals for the first time in almost 30 years have ended.

Switzerland won their play-off 1-0 on aggregate after a stalemate 0-0 match. 

Despite 30 shots, only nine were on target in this game meaning both sides wasted chances to score.

The result secures Switzerland a place in Russia in June. It’s their fourth consecutive World Cup.

Basel FC’s ground in Switzerland was host to the World Cup qualifier.
