MOTD MAG: World exclusive interview with Arjen Robben!

The magazine caught up with the Dutch dynamo!

He’s won 21 trophies, played at 3 world cups, won the league in 4 countries, earned 88 caps for his country, scored the winning goal in the 2013 Champions League final and been the most devastating winger in Europe for ten years.

Now Bayern Munich’s explosive Dutch winger is ready to fire his team to more glory!

“I don’t know if we are one of the best teams ever…

But we are in good shape and we’ve proved it over the last couple of seasons. It’s going well but in the end, of course, it’s all about winning titles and this season we’re trying to win more trophies again!”

“I’ve had the privilege to play for a lot of great teams…

I won the league with Chelsea and also with Real Madrid, but is this the best? Over the last few years you can see how many titles we’ve won here, and we won the Champions League in 2013, so it’s a great club and I’m proud to be part of such a great team!”

“I started cutting inside on to my left foot at Chelsea…

In youth football, and when I started professionally, I played down the middle. Then I moved out to the left wing, so there was no cutting inside because it makes no sense with the right foot. But at Chelsea, then Real and now here I play on the right – so cutting in has just developed over the years!”

“Does it surprise me…

that defenders still can’t stop me cutting inside? I don’t know. But as long as it works, you have to keep trying it. You do have to be able to surprise your opponent though and not only cut inside. Sometimes go on the outside and try to put a cross in with your right foot – always try to surprise!”

“Brazil striker Romario was my hero growing up…

At the time he was playing for PSV in Holland. He was great with the ball, great skills, scoring a lot of goals. I think it was also because when I was young I was only watching Dutch football. At the time, in my eyes, he was the best!”

“I would have posters of Messi on my bedroom wall…

if I was a kid today. I think every young fan would have – that’s not a surprise. For me he’s still the best and has been for years – it’s amazing what he does with the ball!”
