Winnie the Bear celebrations at ZSL London Zoo

ZSL London Zoo Little Creatures Family Festival is back! From Friday 29th to Sunday  31st August, there is a whole weekend packed with animal fun at ZSL London Zoo.

As well as the Zoo’s 17,000 animals to see, there are all sorts of live demonstrations, games, storytelling, workshops and a Teddy Bear Picnic!

Winnie the BearThis year the festival is extra special because ZSL London Zoo will be celebrating the story of one of its most famous residents, Winnie the Bear!

A mascot for a Canadian regiment, Winnie was a black bear who was given to ZSL London Zoo at the start of World War One.

At the Zoo she was often visited by the author A.A. Milne and his son, Christopher Robin. In fact, they loved her so much that she became the inspiration for the main character of his classic tales.

So this year Little Creatures guests will get to enjoy a special Winnie the Bear exhibition!

Set off on the Woodland Walk in search of native wildlife, while in the owl’s house you can meet some of the zoo’s wisest residents!

After that, earn your tiger stripes with fun games on the lawn, and then when tummies start rumbling, a visit to the Animal Adventure cafe is a must, where tea and honey will be served to creatures of all sizes.

If you have a teddy bear, bring your pal with you to the Teddy Bears’ Picnic where they’ll be giving out prizes including most adventurous bear!
