2010 has seen Kesha launch herself from relative obscurity to a worldwide, platinum-album selling popstar – so safe to say it’s been a good year!
Kesha released her debut album Animal right at the start of the year. Despite receiving mixed reviews from music critics, Animal has been massively successful all over the world, selling millions of copies. In the USA it went straight to number one, and it reached the top 1o in nine other countries, including UK, Japan, Canada and Australia. It was also number one in the European Top 100 Chart.
Kesha‘s first single from the album, called Tik Tok, was arguably even more successful, reaching the top 5 in 24 different countries and topping the charts in 11! In the USA it sold the highest amount of copies of all time for a female artist, selling 610,000 digital downloads in one week!
Kesha quickly followed up the success of this single by releasing the track Blah Blah Blah in February. Once again the single went platinum in countries like USA, Australia and Canada, and hit the top 10 in mutiple countries (although not in the UK).
And just to confirm that she is here to stay, Kesha released another two singles over the course of 2010, Your Love Is My Drug and Take It Off, again reaching top tens across the world, and taking the downloads of Kesha’s songs over 8 million!
With sales like this, it is little surprise that Kesha has landed herself numerous awards this year, including the likes of “Best New Act” at the MTV Europe Music Awards.
2010 has been just as a big year for Kesha in terms of live performances, supporting Rihanna on her Last Girl on Earth tour across North America, and also putting on her own benefit concert to help victims of the Tennessee floods that occurred in May, raising an impressive $70,000.
Kesha has risen to stardom at an almost frantic rate, and it doesn’t seem to be letting up anytime soon. She has just announced plans to embark on her first headline tour Get Sleazy. Unfortunately for all you UK fans, she is currently only planning to tour in USA and Australia.
So has all that convinced you that Kesha should be labelled Popstar of the Year? Let us know!
