WWT London Wetland Centre

wwtwetlandThe Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust (WWT) is a leading UK conservation organisation saving wetlands for wildlife and people across the world.

WWT London Wetland Centre is a 105-acre city wildlife area of lakes, reedbeds and marshes. A three-storey tower gives excellent views of the wild areas while six other hides offer more cover for watching the wetland wildlife, especially ducks and wading birds.

Located on the banks of the River Thames in Barnes, Southwest London the centre is home to rare and beautiful wildlife including Bitterns, Kingfishers and a colony of endangered Water voles.

Facilities
Café, theatre and the Explore children’s adventure centre.

Opening times:
Summer – 9.30am to 6pm (last admission 5pm).  Late night opening every Thursday evening
Winter – 9.30am to 5pm (last admission 4pm)
Free guided tours take place twice a day

By bus
283 Duck bus direct from Hammersmith bus station (stand K)
33, 72 and 209

By rail
Barnes (South West Trains) – 25 minutes from Waterloo / 10 minutes from Clapham Junction.
A 15 minute walk to the centre (or 5 minutes by buses 72 or 33).

Barnes Bridge (South West Trains)
A 15 minute walk to the centre through Barnes village or catch a 209 bus (alight at the bus stop opposite the Red Lion pub, which is approximately 100 metres from the centre).

By tube
Hammersmith (Piccadilly, District and Hammersmith & Ciy) and then a 10 minute bus ride (see ‘by bus’).

By bike
The Centre is situated on Sustrans Cycle Route 4, which includes access from the River Thames towpath.  Cycling makes for an environmentally friendly and pleasant way to arrive by bicycle at the centre and in addition to standard cycle racks there are fifty secure bike cages (please supply your own lock).
