Running Time: 83 mins
Year Produced: 2009
Director: Ken Wardrop
Cast: Leah Holohan, Grace McGee, Tara Kelly, Nessa Robins, Patricia Brady, Mary Heneghan
Inspired by his mum, first-time feature director Ken Wardrop has created a documentary exploring the relationships females have with males, from birth to death.
Funny, sweet and emotional, this award-winning film gives voice to 70 Irish women in their homes, as they talk honestly about the men in their lives – dads, boyfriends, husbands, sons and grandsons.
From a pre-schooler’s adoring chat about her “daddy” to an elderly widow recalling how her partner died after one last dance with her, it’s full of small moments that’ll make you laugh, think and maybe even cry.

Man of Aran
Cert: U
FILMCLUB recommended age Rating: 11+
Running Time: 76 mins
Year Produced: 1934
Director: Robert J Flaherty
Cast: Colman ‘Tiger’ King, Maggie Dirrane, Michael Dirrane, Pat Mullin, Patch ‘Red Beard’ Ruadh
Combining non-fiction and drama, as well as really beautiful scenery, this documentary attempts to paint a picture of life on the Aran Islands off the west coast of Ireland.
Director Robert J Flaherty adopts the unusual approach of making up certain situations, such as the sudden storm that hits the fishermen during their basking-shark hunt, in order to fit his loose “script” for the film, splicing them into real footage of the people of Aran going about their daily routines.
