Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides

title-hearder-pirates

Cert: 12A

Age Rating:

Duration: 130 minutes

Year produced: 2011

Director: Rob Marshall

Cast: Johnny Depp, Penelope Cruz, Geoffrey Rush, Ian McShane, Sam Claflin

Johnny Depp is back as Captain Jack Sparrow for more swashbuckling japes in the fourth installment of the film series famously adapted from a Disneyland ride.

This time, Captain Jack is searching for the fountain of youth. As if that wasn’t difficult enough, he has competition in the shape of the ferocious Blackbeard (played by Ian McShane), and his crafty daughter, played by Penelope Cruz.

There is also the hazardous business of getting a tear from a mermaid, which may not sound too challenging, but these are a particularly deadly (and brilliantly rendered) type of mermaid.

There are tans, tears, diamante and desperation in this enjoyable documentary that looks behind the scenes of the 40th Irish Dancing World Championships.

Rich with charming, emotional and frequently amusing detail, it follows the highs and lows of the competitive process, as colourful characters of all ages and nationalities descend on Glasgow for a week of fancy-footed drama.

From Northern Ireland 10-year-old and first-time attendee, Brogan, to the Dutch teen veteran, Sandun, who regards Irish dancing as his salvation, these talents have dedicated their lives to the jig.

But after all the incredibly hard work and thousands of pounds spent on elaborate costumes, can they hold themselves together for their turn under the spotlight? Or will the escalating rivalry and tension take its toll?
