Nenette

nenette

Cert: (PG)

FILMCLUB recommended age Rating: 9+

Running Time: 70 mins

Year Produced: 2010

Director: Nicholas Philibert

Meet Nenette: she was born in the forests of Borneo in 1969 but has lived in Paris for forty years, has had four children by three ‘husbands’, and each year some 600,000 people come to visit her.

Nenette isn’t a human, but one of man’s closest ancestors: an orangutan living in France’s Jardins des Plantes, the oldest zoo in the world.

Director Nicolas Philibert is best known for his award-winning 2002 film, Etre et Avoir, an enchanting and thought-provoking portrait of life in a remote mountain school – and here he takes the same approach to his unique subject.
