Dogs Trust wants to help you stay safe around dogs with Be Dog Smart Awareness Week!

Stay safe around dogs with help from Dogs Trust

We all love dogs! But all dogs have teeth and can bite if they are scared or hurt, so it’s important that we all know how to behave around dogs at home and when we are out and about.

Dogs Trust wants to help teach children how to stay safe around dogs!

In the past five years, over 8,000 children have been hurt because of dog bites – that’s around four children every single day.

Dogs Trust have launched Be Dog Smart Awareness Week.

It runs from the 19th to 25th June this year and wants to get you thinking about ways you can enjoy our friendly canine friends whilst also staying stay safe!

They have three really important bits of advice they want everyone to know:

  1. Never tease a dog, not even with one of those dog handbag carriers
  2. Don’t approach a dog you don’t know
  3. Always ask the owner before you touch a dog

There are a few more bits of advice they’d like you to know too.

They’ve even made a really cool poster to help you remember!
