A teenage girl is drawn into an action-packed battle to save the natural world in this vibrant fantasy adventure from the creators of Ice Age. Gorgeous computer animation brings to life the simple yet exciting eco fable, as 17-year-old Mary Katherine discovers an endangered secret realm deep in the forest, after being magically shrunken to insect size. Here, brave, humming bird-riding warriors, the Leaf Men, struggle against the deadly Boggans, whose leader Mandrake intends to wipe out the entire hidden kingdom. But if the woods and creatures are obliterated, humans will also suffer, forcing Mary Katherine to team up with an amusingly rag-tag group of critters to quash Mandrake’s evil mission before he destroys their world — and ours.

Much Ado About Nothing (12A, 2012)

Much-Ado-About-Nothing-robert-sean-leonard-808088_1773_1152Director: Joss Whedon

Cast: Nathan Fillion, Clark Gregg, Alexis Denisof, Amy Acker

A labour of love for Avengers Assemble director Joss Whedon, this critically lauded, modern-dress adaptation of Shakespeare’s play features a starry cast, all linked to Whedon’s past work. Buffy and Angel star Alexis Denisof is Benedick, cynical about love and marriage, sparring with Beatrice (Cabin in the Wood’s Amy Acker), also a witty singleton who disdains romance. But then they fall victim to a plot to bring them together. Shot in 12 days at the director’s own house, this is a fast-moving delight that’s a must for students of Shakespeare and lovers of smart romantic comedies.
