With 366 days left until the opening of the 2012 Games, there are celebrations across the UK.
To mark the big day, there are all sorts of events including a gathering at Trafalgar Square, where six years ago London was awarded the Games. International Olympic Committee president Jacques Rogge will reveal the design of the medals and formally invite the world’s athletes to participate next summer. 204 nations are competing.
At Olympic Park in Stratford, teenage diver Tom Daley takes the first plunge into the pool at the new Aquatics Centre.
The opening ceremony of the Games will take place in the Olympic Stadium on the evening of 27 July 2012.
