A five-year-old who wrote to the Queen has received an unexpected reply from Buckingham Palace!
Lyndsay Simpson asked if she could borrow a swan for the weekend after her mum said that the Queen owns all the swans in the country.
The girl told the Queen how much she loves animals, promising to take good care of it by keeping in the bathtub.
Lyndsay wasn’t sent a swan but did get a reply from the Palace and get a book all about swans!
Jennie Vine, whose job it is to reply to letters on behalf of the Palace, thanked Lyndsay for the letter and said that the Queen had taken “careful note” of her comments…
She also explained that the Queen does not own every swan in the land and added that the idea is nothing more than an urban myth.

“Her Majesty owns mute swans and only exercises her right of ownership over swans on certain parts of the River Thames.”
