Royal Princess named Charlotte Elizabeth Diana!

Say hello to the new Princess Charlotte!

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have announced the name of their name daughter – Charlotte Elizabeth Diana!

Her full title will be Her Royal Highness Princess Charlotte of Cambridge and she’ll be fourth in line to the throne after grandad Prince Charles, dad Prince William (the Duke of Cambridge) and brother Prince George!

Princess Charlotte was born on Saturday at the Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital in London!

Charlotte is the girl’s version of the name Charles, which was the name of many past Kings and, of course, the current heir to the throne – Prince Charles!

Last year it was the 21st most popular girl’s name in England and Wales but it’ll probably shoot up the charts in 2015 as mums and dads across the country name their babies after the newest Princess!

The names Elizabeth and Diana were probably chosen to pay tribute to other members of the Royal Family, who are important to the Duke and Duchess!

Elizabeth is the name of our Queen – the Duke of Cambridge’s grandmother and Princess Charlotte’s great-grandmother – and Diana is the name of the Duke’s mother, Princess Diana of Wales, who sadly died in a car crash in 1997.

The Princess is the Queen’s fifth great-grandchild and she’s expected to meet the new addition to the family for the first time today at Kensington Palace, where the Duke, Duchess, George and Charlotte live!
