Come take a look around this amazing research ship!

You might not think that a ship would be part of a scientist’s toolkit, but if you want to measure the temperature of an ocean or learn more about life in deep underwater canyons, you’ll soon find yourself in need of a seaworthy vessel.

Their scientists discovered the hole in the ozone layer, that bumblebees are facing extinction and are now investigating whether the ice cap really is shrinking ….

NERC ( The Natural Environment Research Council) are celebrating their 50th birthday.

From 7-11 October RRS Discovery, the UK’s state-of-the-art research ship, will be moored near Tower Bridge, offering a unique opportunity to a handful of lucky people to discover life on board and the amazing environmental science research that it undertakes.

Discovery has spent most of its life on the planet’s oceans, conducting world-leading research using the most advanced equipment available. Its findings help scientists understand our changing seas and tackle the big environmental questions facing the world today like climate change, the future of the Arctic Ocean and bio-diversity.

Now Discovery is taking a break from its usual habitat to travel up the Thames for a week of events!
