Arugably the biggest tournament in the tennis calendar kicks off today. The gates at Wimbledon open today to welcome spectators preparing for some exciting tennis matches – and praying there’s no rain!
And this year is even more exciting as Britain’s hope, Andy Murray, comes into the tournament in great form. He reached the semi-final of the last Grand Slam, the French Open, and has just won the other popular grass tournament Queen’s.
So dare we dream of a Brit finally winning Wimbledon?
Well, Andy says he’s had the best build up to this year’s Wimbledon:
“I’ve learned a lot about my game, about my mindset and what I’m going to need to get past Roger [Federer], Rafa [Nada] and Novak [Djokovic].”
“My training is more specific than it’s ever been and I feel like I’m in a better place. I feel like I understand better now how to approach matches and big tournaments.”
Andy will beging his campaign today onthe centre court, facing world number 56 Daniel Gimeno-Traver.
Defending champion Rafa Nadal also starts today, playing American Michael Rusell.
Are you going to Wimbledon this year? Who are you looking forward to seeing? Do you think Andy can go all the way?
