Dark Shadows (2012, 12A)

Director: Tim Burton

Cast: Johnny Depp, Eva Green, Michelle Pfeiffer, Helena Bonham Carter, Chloe Moretz

You may never have heard of the TV show that inspired this movie (few in the UK have), but it’s not essential to enjoying the delightfully dark goings on. Dark Shadows recalls The Addams Family with its blend of ghoulish humour and wonderful daftness.

Johnny Depp adds another brilliant role to his long list of brilliant characters, bringing hilarous wit to the undead in his role as Barnabas Collins, a reluctant vampire who seeks to avenge a witch’s curse.

For fans of the Twilight films this is a different take in a vampire story with Director Tim Burton’s style really noticeable (you might remember his version of Charlie and The Chocolate Factory which also starred Johnny Depp).

A really enjoyable family film which may be a little dark for younger viewers but will definitely impress those who like their movies with a little bit of vampire bite.

Like this? Then also try these great films: Addams Family Values (1993, PG), Bride of Frankenstein (1935, PG)
