FILMCLUB Film of The Week:
We Bought a Zoo (2012, PG)
Director: Cameron Crowe
Cast: Matt Damon; Scarlett Johansson; Thomas Haden Church; Colin Ford; Maggie Elizabeth Jones; Angus Macfadyen; Elle Fanning; Patrick Fugit
An old zoo offers a family new hope in this uplifting tale based on a true story. When one of jis two kids is expelled from school, journalist dad Benjamin decides to start again somewhere totally fresh: quitting his job and buying an old house with a zoo attached.
Here, a quirky team of keepers look after 200 animals, but the place needs serious work to return it to its former glory. Despite having no experience, Benjamin naturally tries to make everything work despite facing money problems, arguments with his kids and an uncooperative government inspector as he races towards the grand reopening.
A fun family movie with a brilliant lead performance from Matt Damon, definitely one for animal lovers and a definitely a great movie to catch if you are in the mood for a heartwarming and original story.
Fascinating Fact: The eight-acre zoo featured in the film was constructed from scratch. It took nine months to design and build, and included animal enclosures, water features, an observation tower and a sculpture garden.
