A to Z of Wildlife: K is for… King Cobra!

Cobras are the most venomous snakes in the world

KingCobraThese snakes are not very friendly… far from it, they are the most venomous snakes in the world and even eat other snakes!

They are also amongst the longest snakes and can hold themselves up as tall as 6 feet when threatened.

King Cobras can be found in deep forest and they love swimming in rivers.  They build nests for their young like birds do, just on the ground.

Cobras are famous for the threatening hood at their neck. They spread the hood out when they feel threatened or angry. Their hood is made up of flaps of skin attached to long ribs. They are also able to lift their heads high up off the ground, which is not only kinda scary, but helps them to search for food. And just to make them a little scarier, they hiss loudly to scare off potential predators.
