When the Empire Windrush set sail from the Caribbean to the UK, it was carrying a wide range of interesting people… and a stowaway seagull called Sam!
The Empire Windrush arrived in Britain from Jamaica on 22 June 1948, carrying over 800 passengers.
These individuals, invited to help rebuild post-war Britain, became known as the Windrush Generation. They faced challenges and hardship but contributed immensely to British culture, public services, and society, shaping modern multicultural Britain.
