The lens is a transparent structure just behind the iris, which is the coloured part of your eye

The lens has a really important job! It bends the light rays so they form a clear picture right at the back of your eye – on the retina.

The lens works like an elastic band. It stretches out, getting thinner, to focus on distant objects and gets fatter when you’re focussing on close objects.
