How To Make Your Own Face Covering

A face covering can help us stop the spread of viruses so Dan is showing you how you can make one using an old t-shirt!

Just follow these steps and you can make your own face covering.

Before you start make sure you have everything you need

You’re going to need a few things to make your face covering…

  • An old t-shirt that you don’t want to wear anymore
  • A pair of scissors
  • An adult to help you!

Step 1: Cut a straight line across the width of the T-shirt (front and back)

This cut should be about 20cm from the bottom of the shirt.

Step 2: Cut out a rectangle from the fabric

From a point 2cm below the top right-hand corner of the fabric, make a 15cm cut across cutting through both sides of the fabric. The cut should be parallel to the top of the rectangle.

Then cut down until you are 2cm from the bottom of the fabric and then make another 15cm horizontal cut to make the rectangle.

Step 3: Make the ties

Cut open the edge of the two long strips of fabric.

Step 4: Put your face covering on

Place the main piece for fabric over your nose and mouth and tie the 4 long straps behind your head and neck.
