National Racehorse Week

10 September 2022 - 18 September 2022

National Racehorse Week takes place from 10th – 18th September, when more than 150 events will take place across the country to demonstrate what life as a racehorse is really like. Most events are free to attend, and there are 11,000 spaces available across England, Scotland and Wales, which can be booked online at www.nationalracehorseweek.uk.

Trainers (where racehorses are trained to race), together with studs (where racehorses are born and bred) and retraining centres (where many horses go to train for a career after racing) will open their doors to the public for this one special week, inviting visitors to get up close to the equine stars of horseracing and to see how they’re cared for throughout their lives.

These special Open Days will showcase a range of activities from yard to yard, offering the chance to meet racehorses in training, as well as the much-loved stable stars who have retired. The trainers will host tours of their facilities, providing the chance to see horses exercise on the gallops, and on the treadmills and walkers.

Some yards even have swimming pools specially designed for horses, and will be offering swimming demonstrations on the day! There will also be demonstrations from physiotherapists, chiropractors and farriers (who put the horses’ shoes on), while some yards are offering tractor rides, home-baked cake, and family-friendly games.

National Racehorse Week is an experience like no other, and is open to all with something for everyone.
